My hair today - RPGShow wig

Hi Everyone!

Just showing you all how I am wearing my hair today. It's a wig I got from RPGShow. I drew inspiration from Ms Olivia Pope. (Yes, I'm a 'scandal' addict! :)

Hope everyone's journey is coming along nicely. How are you all wearing your hair at the moment? What are your favorite protective styles? Are you having any challenges protective styling and if so, how are you overcoming them? Let me know in the comments section.

    1. Hi Trixie, It's not going to change anything, my regimen is still pretty much the same. I will be protective styling and when I decide to wear my hair out, I'll straighten the roots to blend in with the relaxed hair which is what I typically do when I stretch my relaxers anyway. Don't worry the hair growth challenge is still very much on. Remember, the challenge is for everyone: relaxed, naturals, transitioning. It's about learning how to care for our hair regardless of how we choose to wear it. I hope you'll stick with the journey and not get discouraged.

  2. I wondered isn’t it cheaper and better to have ur wig made instead of having it purchased. That way, it as full as u like and cut to frame your face

I was just wondering what the benefits are of purchasing one……...well, I guess its quicker
    It looks cute on u

    1. Thanks.

Custom ordering a wig is just as expensive as buying from stock. It just takes longer because you have to wait for it to be made. But if you want exceptionally thick hair then it is worth it to custom order. I personally don't like wigs to be too thick so the stock units work for me. When I got this wig, the bangs well too long so I had to cut off about 2 inches to get it to fit right. With a custom unit you could probably tell them how long you want the bangs to be but you may still have to cut it to your taste when you receive it.

  5. hi bassey,
I have been trying to do protective styling but i found it challenge and i am doing braid this week and am leaving it for two months. before this i have just been putting in up in a pony tail but tieing the mouth and putting it inside my hair.

i hope this is good. I am having trouble findind a sulphate free shampoo and i will love it if you can just recommend one for me. Thanks.

im loving this journey. Thanks so much

  6. Putting it in a pony tail and tucking in the tip is perfectly fine. Remember to moisturize and seal the ends with oil.

For sulphate free shampoo, if you can't find one, you can use black soap. It's sulphate free and you should be able to find it easily. Here is a post on how to make sulphate free shampoo with black soap Black soap moisturizing shampoo

I'm glad you are making progress and you are welcome.

  7. Hi Bassey,

Started following your blog after I read your interview on Bella Naija and I've really benefited from the tips. Thanks a lot!

I went on a natural low cut in February just for the fun of it and to really see if I could start again and grow my hair natural. I've been washing my hair with the black soap shampoo mixture I got from your blog (couldn't find hydrolysed wheat protein and guar gum, so my mixture lacks those; wouldn't mind tips on where I could get those. Didn't add any essential oil too), applying coconut oil, shea butter or olive oil after bathing every day. I comb in the mornings but try not to comb at night, to reduce breakage.

Now, the regimen works, even though I forget to deep condition every two weeks. My hair is thicker and fuller. It's exactly 7 weeks I cut it and I think it's grown from half inch to almost two inches! Please what more can I do to it and what protective measures can I take, since my hair is just about 2 inches? I plan to go natural till my wedding later this year or longer than that.

Hope to read your response soon. Thank you!

    1. Half inch to two inches in 7 weeks is amazing progress. Congrats! I'm glad to hear that. Not combing at night is a great idea as it is advisable to reduce combing as much as possible. The only other thing I would recommend is conditioning. Even if you don't have time to deep condition, you can use an instant conditioner and alternate between the black soap shampoo wash and conditioner only washes (i.e. washing your hair with conditioner instead of shampoo). Thanks for your comment and keep us updated on your progress.
